Student Innovation Awards, BCS ICT Conference 2017
Two University of Bolton – Academic Centre RAK students have won first prize in a national level student competition at the Student Innovation Awards hosted by the Middlesex University Dubai, in partnership with the Chartered Institute for IT (BCS) –Middle East section. Middlesex University Dubai held the event at its Knowledge Park campus as part of the lead-up to the 2017 BCS ICT Conference that was held in Abu Dhabi on 29 October 2017. The event was arranged to provide students an opportunity to use technology to showcase their creativity and develop their interest in the areas of Mobility, Security, Communication, Collaboration, Environment and Wellness for the Future Cities.
Mohammad Rasly and Osama Khan from the computing department at RAK built an IOT based solar powered garbage monitoring system for the Innovation Awards under the theme ‘Future Cities’. Their six months of hard work placed them first out of twenty-two teams from different Universities across UAE. They received a 15,000 AED (£3096) cash prize at the 2017 BCS ICT Conference award ceremony, presented by GCS ME patron HE Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister for Culture and Knowledge Development on 29 October 2017 at Anantara Eastern Mangroves Hotel Abu Dhabi.
